In areas where human cultures and wolf populations overlap, wolves are prominently featured in those cultures mythology and folklore. Humans have a long a varied history with wolves. In some parts of the world they are respected and revered while in other parts they are feared or thought of as betrayers. They can symbolize the entire range of natural phenomenon to be viewed as good omens or bad, depending upon the perception of the viewer.

Wolves howl to communicate and to define territories. They howl to keep in touch or to call others of their pack. Sometimes wolves howl together in groups.
